Leadership by example: Guv Davide donates blood, encourages Cebuanos too
Cebu Governor Hilario Davide III is encouraging his constituents to donate blood – by engaging in the practice himself.
Davide donated blood during the provincial government’s “Serbisyo Karaban” held recently in Balamban town, the provincial government said.
The provincial government said Davide “makes sure he gets to donate twice a year and has been doing so for years now.” (http://www.cebu.gov.ph/news/capitol-helps-save-lives-davide-calls-on-cebuanos-to-give-blood/)
Davide pointed out donating blood not only benefits others but also the donor himself as it has health benefits and lowers the risk of heart disease.
Cebu Provincial Blood Coordinating Council program coordinator Jason Dacua noted the human body takes 120 days to process, dispose and replenish the blood circulating in the bloodstream.
At present, the Cebu Provincial Hospitals in Balamban town and Bogo, Carcar and Danao Cities have blood stations accessible on a 24/7 basis.
“Fresh supply of blood is available to all who wish to avail of the services,” the provincial government said.
“We are continuously improving on these services, especially on our blood program,” Provincial Health Office head Dr. Rene Catan said.
However, Catan added that fresh supplies would be easily exhausted without blood from new donors.
