Lacson to Garcia: Let E. Visayas-bound pork pass

POLITIKO - The bible of Philippine Politics.
Negros Occidental Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson urged Governor Gwen Garcia to allow shipments of pork and pork products to Eastern Visayas to pass through Cebu.
“I did already write a letter to Gov. Gwen Garcia, requesting if she could lift her executive order (EO), considering Negros has not been declared an African swine fever (ASF) red zone,” said Lacson.
The governor added that Rey Dela Rama, head of one of the local hog raisers groups, requested the provincial government to intervene. (https://bit.ly/3LjcHo4)
Garcia issued an EO implementing a temporary ban on the entry of live hogs, sows, piglets, boar semen, pork, and pork-related products from Negros Island into Cebu from March 6 to April 5, 2023.
The order was issued after ASF was detected in Carcar City. The ASF-positive swine are said to have mixed with those from Negros.
Negros Occidental is one of the country’s leading backyard hog producers, with an industry worth more than P6 billion.
