Lacson hopes for Degamo’s change of heart
Negros Occidental Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson is hoping that Negros Oriental Governor Roel Degamo may reconsider his stand on the proposed Negros Island Region (NIR).
“I’ve not been able to contact him. But we are still hoping that at the end of the day, Degamo will support the idea of a NIR,” said Lacson.
The governor described as good news the passage of the House Committee on Local Government of the NIR substitute bill. (https://bit.ly/3QVhHQB)
The measure is sponsored by the Negros congressmen including Bacolod Rep. Greg Gasataya and Abang Lingkod party-list Rep. Stephen Paduano.
Lacson, however, said that it’s just a preliminary or first step.
“What is more difficult I think is when this is elevated to the committee on appropriations although it is stated in the NIR bill that the budget will come from the existing agencies,” he said.
