Labella: No night market this year

Mayor Edgardo Labella rejected the proposal to reopen the night market in Cebu City.

“I will not agree to the establishment of a night market. There will be no night market,” Labella said in a press conference Monday.

According to him, the city government’s primary concern in putting up night markets in downtown Cebu was the strict implementation and reinforcement of minimum health standards. (

“Let us always consider the health of the people. And for having night markets, there’s no assurance if minimum health standards and protocols will be observed,” he explained.

Last Friday, the city’s Market Operations Division announced their plans to open night markets this year to help vendors get back on their livelihood following months of lockdown.
