Koko Pimentel doubtful about Duterte-Marcos tandem
Senator Aquilino Pimentel doused speculations on Thursday that Senator Ferdinand Marcos Jr. can be considered as Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte’s running mate in the 2016 polls.
Pimentel, president of Partido-Demokratiko Pilipino-Lakas ng Bayan (PDP-Laban), cited the party’s struggle against Martial Law, which allowed Marcos’ father, the late President Ferdinand Marcos, to rule with an iron fist from 1972 until his ouster in 1986.
The Cagayan de Oro politiko, however, assured he will listen to what other PDP-Laban members have to say on the selection of a vice presidential candidate.
So far, only Senator Alan Peter Cayetano is actively courting Duterte to tap him as his running mate.
Marcos earlier eyed Duterte as his presidential bet but the mayor decided not to show up in last month’s filing of certificate of candidacy at the Commission on Elections.
Marcos then settled for a “loose coalition” with another Malacañang aspirant, Senator Miriam Defensor Santiago, with details still unclear up to this point.
