Joe III threatens to blacklist illegal ukay-ukay vendors at Jaro plaza
Iloilo City Mayor Jose “Joe” Espinosa III will blacklist from all public markets the ukay-ukay vendors inside the Jaro plaza during this year’s Jaro Agro-Industrial and Charity Fair.
In 2017, Espinosa issued Executive Order No. 94-2017, directing the Special Services Unit and City Environment and Natural Resources Office to prohibit illegal or unauthorized structures or activities in public plazas and other places considered as properties of public dominion and/or for public uses.
Republic Act 4653 prohibits the operation of ukay-ukay stalls for commercial purposes “to safeguard the health of the people and maintain the dignity of the nation,” added the politiko.
“They should not continue doing business there. They will be blacklisted in all public markets,” according to him.
Espinosa said he already called the attention of Balantang village chief Jeryl Agilles, manager of the Jaro fair, in connection with the illegal display of ukay-ukay.
