Jerry Treñas wants DepEd to use budget for blended learning gadgets
School building projects should be dropped in favor of better internet and tablets.
Iloilo City Mayor Jerry Treñas had a proposal for major changes in the budget of the Department of Education to have a better handle of the new normal in education.
“I am just thinking aloud. Why don’t we stop all school building projects of DepEd for next year since there is no face to face learning due to the pandemic? Instead, DepEd should further improve internet facilities of the schools and the barangays, and purchase tablets for all the teachers and students both in public and private with distant schools, then we can go on with distant learning safely,” the politiko said.
“DepEd should also look for ways to help the private schools which are suffering right now. The assistance can come in terms of subsidies to the faculty in private schools and tablets for the pupils therein. If we are to heal we must heal as one,” he added.
