Jerry Treñas gets emotional after a year as Iloilo City mayor
It’s been the toughest year in politics, but proud to have pulled through with help from his friends and even from rivals.
Mayor Jerry Treñas of Iloilo City marked a year into his fresh term leading city hall, and he could not believe how much life has changed since he took his oath of office in 2019. Major challenges and pandemic aside, he thinks he’s done fairly well.
“In my speech last year, I thanked my mentor, the late Fr. Archie Intengan S.J. (Father provincial of Society of Jesus) as he has taught me that leadership is really about serving the people in need. That is why at the start of our ECQ, I made sure to take care and provide all the basic needs of my people as much I can. Father Archie, I hope I make you proud,” the politiko said.
He even had kind words to his rivals in the field.
“Also to my opponents, during my speech last year I asked for your support to set aside politics so that we can bring Iloilo to the next level. You have heard my call and did not fail the Ilonggos, thank you for sending help immediately during this Covid-19, I am forever grateful for that,” Treñas added.
His message for his second year is a call for action to all Ilonggos amid the health crisis.
