Jalaur dam project to break ground tomorrow
The P11.2-billion Jalaur River Multipurpose Projects-Stage II (JRMP II) in the town of Calinog, Iloilo province is finally ready to break ground.
The mega dam’s groundbreaking is scheduled on Wednesday in Barangay Agcalaga, said Senator Franklin Drilon.
Citing the “alarming” state of the country’s agriculture sector, Drilon said the construction of “game-changer” JRMP II could improve agricultural production in Western Visayas and in the country.
“I hope that the administration would really prioritize the construction of agricultural facilities similar to Jalaur in its Build, Build, Build program, because only then we will be able to move closer to our goal of rice self-sufficiency, improve our overall agricultural production, and ultimately bring development to rural areas, while helping address problems of poverty and food security,” the politiko added.
The project, which is expected to generate 17,000 local jobs, will be funded through P8.95 billion official development assistance from Korean government’s EXIM bank and the government’s counterpart fund of P2.2 billion.
