Iwas sakuna! Hazard maps handed out to Cebu LGUs to better prepare for disasters
The Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (PDRRMO) has distributed hazard maps to the local executives of Cebu’s 51 towns and cities to guide them in crafting better disaster response policies.
Baltazar Tribunalo Jr, PDRRMO chief, said the geohazard map contains plotted danger zones and was translated in Visayan language so that it would be easier to understand.
“We translated the hazard maps in the Visayan language and distributed them to all the barangays,” he said.
Tribulano added that the maps specify areas in the province that are most vulnerable in a particular natural hazards such as earthquakes, volcanoes, landslides, flooding and tsunamis.
He also said that the map would help the local government units in cushioning damage on lives and properties in times calamities and disasters.
