Is Cebu City ready to lift MECQ?
The voice of the experts will play an important role in coming up with a decision with regard to the current quarantine status of Cebu City, Mayor Edgardo Labella said.
The city is currently under modified enhanced community quarantine (MECQ) due to the coronavirus disease pandemic.
When asked about the possible lifting or extending of MECQ after May 31, Labella said he cannot answer at this point. (https://bit.ly/3eb4Wwy)
“We have to be very careful, circumspect about this,” he added.
It was midday of March 28 when Labella placed the city under ECQ until April 28 to intensify measures aimed at preventing the spread of the coronavirus disease. However, six days before the declaration ended, he extended the ECQ up to May 15 due to the rising cases of the virus.
On May 15, the city mayor issued an executive order placing the city, which is classified as high-risk for COVID infections, under modified ECQ. The order came after President Rodrigo Duterte imposed modified ECQ in the entire Metro Manila, Laguna, and Cebu City until May 31.
“The people should adopt discipline so that we can contain the spread of the virus,” said Labella.
