Improving! Bato lauds Mabilog’s efforts to fight drugs as Espenido’s transfer called off
Philippine National Police chief Director Ronald “Bato” Dela Rosa has commended Iloilo City Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog for stepping up efforts to solve the drug problem.
Dela Rosa lauded Mabilog at the heels of the cancellation of Chief Inspector Jovie Espenido’s assignment to Iloilo City.
In a press conference in Camp Crame Monday (September 4), Dela Rosa said he would rather that Espenido remain in Ozamiz City.
“Anyway ‘yung sa sitwasyon sa Iloilo e nakikita ko na inaamin naman ni Mayor Jed Mabilog na napabayaan niya ‘yung problema sa drugs noon, hindi niya na-address. But right now, in fairness to the good mayor, nakikita ko rin naman na nagsusumikap siya sa anti-drug campaign sa Iloilo City,” he said.
Dela Rosa said it was President Rodrigo Duterte who ordered the recall of Espenido’s assignment to Iloilo City.
Espenido was supposed to be transferred from Ozamiz City following the death of Mayor Reynaldo Parojinog Sr., who had been tagged by Duterte as a narcopolitiko.
The President has also accused Mabilog of involvement in illegal drugs, saying the mayor was able to build his “palace-like” house due to earnings from the narcotics trade.
