The Salcedo family in Sara, Iloilo has requested for security from the Police Regional Office 6 (Western Visayas) after receiving threats.

In an interview Wednesday, Supt. Joem Malong, PRO-6 spokesperson, confirmed that Sara Mayor Ermelita Salcedo, together with her daughter, Board Member Jeneda Salcedo-Orendain, and daughter-in-law Sybelle Mary Buenaflor Salcedo, met with PRO-6 Director, Chief Supt. John Bulalacao, at Camp Martin Delgado in this city on Monday.

Their visit came a day after two of their family members, who died during the Oct. 17 simultaneous police anti-drug operations, were laid to rest.

Malong said that based on information she gathered from Bulalacao, the Salcedo family sought police escorts due to threats they have received. She, however, did not disclose the specifics of the threats.

She said Bulalacao ordered several policemen to validate the information. “Our regional director will grant their request if the threats are proven,” she added.

Aside from the request for police escorts, Malong said the Salcedo family also asked Bulalacao to relieve the chief of Sara municipal police, Senior Insp. Asencion Ortizo, of his post because of his attitude to their family.

Malong said Bulalacao has also requested for the validation of their complaints against Ortizo.

In a follow-up interview, Orendain acknowledged that they have talked about their safety and security with Bulalacao but they do not yet have an “official request” for police escorts.

Orendain said there have been threats against her family circulating in social media, especially on Facebook. However, she denied that they have requested to relieve Ortizo.

“We do not have any official request to relieve any policeman but we were there as public officials. We were there because we lobbied for the safety of our family and also fair investigation of everyone,” she said.

She said Bulalacao assured them that he will be fair in dealing with issues and proper validation. (PNA)
