Iloilo to crack down on backyard slaughtering
After acquiring new boilers worth P3.75 million for its slaughterhouse, the Iloilo City government is cracking down on illegal slaughtering of hogs and cattle.
City Local Economic Enterprise Office head Ariel Castañeda said backyard slaughterhouse operators should now use the city abattoir to ensure the meat in the city is sanitary.
He also said the city government will reconvene Task Force Hot Meat to ensure the quality of the meat sold in the city, The Daily Guardian reported.
The task force has representatives from the City Veterinary Office, City Health Office, Iloilo City Police Office, Business Process and Licensing Office, and Office of the City Administrator.
Last Monday, city officials led by Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog attended the inauguration of the new facilities for the city slaughterhouse.
