Iloilo records first Covid-19 case
A 65-year-old resident of Guimbal town is the first confirmed case of a coronavirus (Covid-19) patient in the province of Iloilo, the Department of Health (DOH) in Western Visayas announced.
The patient was tested on March 13. The result was released yesterday morning.
DOH regional director Dr. Marlyn Convocar said this was the second case in the region. The first positive case was reported in Bacolod City last Friday. (https://bit.ly/2WxTPIp)
“The patient had no travel history to countries and cities with coronavirus cases, but was exposed to relatives who had recently traveled to Japan but were asymptomatic,” said Convocar.
The patient, she said, started to manifest symptoms like cough and fever on March 6 and was admitted to a hospital in Iloilo City on March 13 and a sample for Covid-19 testing was taken the same day.
Convocar said the patient is in unstable condition as he has concomitant ailments.
All persons who had close contact with the patient are considered persons under monitoring if they manifest no signs and symptoms, and patients under investigation to the close contact who has signs and symptoms, she added.
Governor Arthur Defensor Jr. has placed Iloilo under enhanced community quarantine, imposing restrictions on people’s movement to contain virus spread.
