Iloilo prov’l board backs mandatory ROTC for senior high

The Sangguniang Panlalawigan (SP) of Iloilo supports the revival of the mandatory Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (ROTC) program.

In a resolution, the SP endorsed Senate Bill No. 2232 or the Senior High School Reserve Officers Training Corps Act, which requires all students in Grades 11 and 12 to participate in the ROTC program.

SP member Liecel Mondejar-Seville, a reserve commissioned officer of the Philippine Marines, sponsored the resolution.

ROTC would “instill discipline, patriotism and respect to the laws and to duly constituted authorities, and to prepare the youth…as additional manpower of the State in times disaster, conflicts and wars,” said Mondejar-Seville.

She said the SP will send a copy of the resolution to the Senate.
