Iloilo province, city not closing borders with Negros
Iloilo Governor Arthur Defensor Jr. said he and Iloilo City Jerry Treñas won’t close the borders with Negros Island amid the growing number of Covid-19 infections there.
Defensor said Negros Occidental is currently under modified general community quarantine (MGCQ) and the province has its own measures to contain the spread of Covid-19.
He, however, did not close the possibility that it may change. (https://bit.ly/32tjKmx)
The decision will be based on daily monitoring of Covid-19 in the region and their coordination with Lacson, according to the governor.
“If two areas are both under MGCQ, we cannot stop inter-zonal travel, but there are instances where the classification is not in line with the COVID situation. Nonetheless, they haven’t changed their status because of remedial measures,” explained Defensor.
Last week, Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson requested to place Negros Occidental under GCQ.
But, Interior Undersecretary Epimaco Densing III advised him that the province will remain under MGCQ until April 30.
As of April 13, the province logged a total of 1,591 active COVID cases.
