Iloilo needs P167M to reach G2 sanitation level
To achieve Grade 2 (G2) or Basic Sanitation Status in the province, the Iloilo Provincial Government needs at least P167 million to build toilets and handwashing facilities.
Governor Arthur Defensor Jr. said that restrooms and sinks for washing hands should be made available whenever Ilonggos go in order to reach G2 by 2028.
“There’s still a lot more work ahead of us,” according to Defensor. (https://bit.ly/3TTO0PJ)
G2 or Basic Sanitation Status refers to the condition of a community where “households, schools, child development centers, and public institutional facilities have their own sanitary toilets that are functional; and communities properly manage animal excreta and properly dispose of their solid waste, in addition to maintaining the norm that open defecation is unacceptable.”
The province can only obtain the G2 rank, according to Defensor, if everyone remains dedicated to giving cleanliness initiatives top priority and “with the continued support of our local chief executives and development partners.”
Data also indicated that more than 137 schools in the province do not have gender-segregated toilets and 16,730 households share a toilet with another household.
