Iloilo mayor to appeal Sandiganbayan verdict
Mayor Rufino Palabrica III of Dingle, Iloilo said he will appeal the conviction handed down by the Sandiganbayan against him for violation of Republic Act (RA) 3019 or the Anti-graft and Corrupt Practices Act.
Palabrica, who was accused of conflict of interest after issuing a business permit to a clinic and drug store he owned in 2014, is set to file a motion for reconsideration to the decision of the Sandiganbayan’s Special Sixth Division promulgated last July 19.
If the motion is denied, the politiko will exhaust all legal remedies to refute the charges and clear his name. (https://dailyguardian.com.ph/mayor-to-seek-reconsideration-of-sandiganbayan-verdict/)
The Sandiganbayan found Palabrica guilty of two counts of violation of Section 3(h) of RA 3019.
He was meted six to eight years imprisonment for each count and perpetual disqualification from holding public office.
