Iloilo City mayor plans to open isolation area for monkeypox cases
The Iloilo City Government intends to build an isolation facility for monkeypox cases, separate from the Covid-19 quarantine/isolation facilities.
Mayor Jerry Treñas discussed this with City Health Office officials recently.
“Our worry is that the borders are open, with the constant influx of visitors,” Treñas said in the vernacular. (https://bit.ly/3ByGhB3)
Monkeypox is a rare disease caused by infection with the monkeypox virus, which is part of the same family of viruses as variola virus, the virus that causes smallpox.
The symptoms are similar to those of smallpox, but less severe, and monkeypox is rarely fatal.
On July 29, the Department of Health confirmed the first case of monkeypox in the country – a 31-year-old Filipino who returned to the Philippines from an overseas trip on July 19.
