Iloilo City Hall tightens security after bodyguard row
Security protocols have been tightened at the Iloilo City hall following an incident where a councilor’s bodyguards were arrested for bringing unlicensed firearms and a grenade inside the premises.
City administrator Hernando Galvez said the stricter security protocols will focus mainly on the bringing of firearms and other deadly weapons.
Last Monday, two bodyguards of Councilor Plaridel Nava were arrested for bringing inside cal-.45 pistols and a hand grenade.
The incident prompted Mayor Jose Espinosa III to order security guards to implement stricter security protocols, including frisking persons who enter the building, Galvez said .
Investigation showed the unlicensed firearms and grenade belonged to brothers Julius and Roy delos Reyes, who worked as job hires under the office of Nava.
Julius and Roy were linked to an ambush last Jan. 4 that killed two persons, including the cousin of Nava.
