Iloilo City eyes completing new transport plan by February 2019
Iloilo City is aiming to finish by February 2019 a comprehensive local route transport plan (LRTP) for public utility vehicles (PUVs).
The city’s Public Safety and Transportation Management Office hinted the transport plan may involve possible changes in PUV routes.
It also seeks to support the government’s Public Utility Vehicle Modernization Program that involves removing tricycles from national highways and lowering the number of jeepneys in the city.
An LRTP is one of the requirements the city government needs to have for the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board to issue franchises for PUVs.
PSTMO head Jeck Conlu added the plan will cover not just taxis but also buses, jeepneys, and tricycles.
Conlu said drivers in the city have proven to be very cooperative in the government’s programs.
