Iloilo City dad, mayor’s 2 daughters affected by dengue
Iloilo City Councilor Ely Estante was hospitalized on Monday night due to dengue.
Doctors said Estante showed a symptom of thrombocytopenia or low platelet count at 71.
The normal was 150 to 400.
The two daughters of Maasin Mayor Francis Amboy of Iloilo province were also hospitalized to manage the disease.
Last Monday, Amboy’s 12-year-old daughter had fever and was confirmed to have dengue after a laboratory test. On the same day, his seven-year old child was brought to the rural health unit of Maasin for a dengue test and turned out positive, too.
Both girls are currently confined at QualiMed Hospital in Mandurriao district.
The World Health Organization said individuals should suspect dengue when a high fever is accompanied by two of the following symptoms: severe headache, pain behind the eyes, nausea/vomiting, swollen glands, muscle and joint pains, and rash.
