Iloilo City council passes first reading of ordinance repealing anti-bike policy
The first reading of an ordinance repealing two ordinances that ban bicycles in some parts of Iloilo City was approved Tuesday.
The ordinance proposes to repeal Ordinance Nos. 354 series of 1982 and 129 series of 1983.
Revoking the old ordinances would erase the “grey areas” and “confusion,” especially among bikers, said Councilor Jay Treñas in The Daily Guardian report.
With passage on first reading, the proposed ordinance was referred to the concerned committee for hearings.
Earlier, Public Safety and Transportation Management Office head Jeck Conlu allegedly said they will apprehend violators of the 37-year-old ordinance.
Conlu’s remark was opposed by bikers and led them to hold a Liberation Ride last Monday, calling for the repeal or amendment of said ordinance.
