Huli kayo! Osmeña charges city hall workers who helped SM Seaside cheat taxes
These employees have been suspended and will face legal battles.
Mayor Tomas “Tommy” Osmeña has ordered the filing of administrative charges against three employees of the Cebu City Hall who were discovered to have conspired to help SM Seaside to get lower tax dues.
Facing charges are former officer-in-charge Liezel C. Gonzaga of the City Assessor’s Office, former head of Building and Machinery Sybil Ann C. Reambonanza, and Hilario P. Alicante, according to Cebu City’s Public Information Office.
The three were discovered to have worked together for the underdeclaration of the fair market value of the SM building, leaving the annual property taxes paid by Henry Sy’s empire short of P23 million per year.
“Helping to cheat the Cebuanos from millions in taxes will not go unpunished,” Osmeña said.
