The House of Representatives will investigate the series of pole fires in Iloilo City, Rep. Julienne Baronda.

These fires are endangering the lives of city residents, said Baronda, adding that the Department of Energy (DOE) and Panay Electric Co. have a lot of explaining to do.

Nine pole fires were reported between October 19 and 21, she noted. (

From January 2014 to October 29, 2019, the Bureau of Fire Protection reported that 1,464 of the 2,887 fire incidents in the city were pole fires.

“DOE and PECO owe the public an explanation. If their explanations are wanting, we will exercise the congressional oversight power of the House Committee on Energy,” according to the lady politiko.

Baronda said she had already written DOE seeking an explanation for the pole fires.
