Hindi lang media: Ex-Butuan councilor indicted for libel
A former councilor of Butuan City faces trial before the Sandiganbayan for libel, over making malicious statements against a construction company, the Ombudsman said Monday.
The Office of the Ombudsman said it found probable cause to charge former councilor Sergio Pascual with libel for his imputations against Equi-Parco Construction Co.
Charged with him were columnist Salvador Cupin, publisher Joseph Sy, general manager Mary Ann Ranido and news editor Mark Divid Bequilla, all of CENTRO newspaper.
Investigation showed Pascual’s claims were published on the column of Salvador Cupin in the local newspaper CENTRO.
He claimed Equiparco entered into a contract with the Butuan City Water District, and claimed it was a “corrupt, dishonest, deceitful and a crooked company.”
