Habang walang National ID: Barangay profiling system eyed in Davao City
Nearly three weeks after a deadly blast at a night market in Davao City, the city government is eyeing a profiling system to monitor the movement of residents and visitors.
This is an alternative to the proposed National ID system, according to Ivan Cortez, chief of the City Planning and Development Office.
“Owners of apartments or accommodation facilities should have a system of reporting to the barangay,” Cortez said.
The system was proposed weeks after a bomb exploded at a night market in Davao City Sept. 2. As of this week, at least 15 had been killed.
Under the proposed system, owners of apartments and accommodation facilities are to record the profiles of their tenants and submit information to their respective barangays.
Barangay officials will collect the data and coordinate with the police and the military if necessary.
Cortez said this is one way of tracking lawless elements and criminals, adding it has been proposed to Mayor Sara Duterte.
