Guevarra puts NBI on standby for possible probe of ex-Cebu mayor Ramirez
Justice Secretary Menardo Guevarra has assured on Thursday (June 20) that the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) is prepared to investigate the killing of former Medellin, Cebu mayor Ricky Ramirez.
“We’ll let the local PNP (Philippine National Police) do its investigation first,” Guevarra said.
“The regional NBI office will be ready to assist or, if necessary, conduct its own probe,” he added.
Around 15 unidentified armed men stormed the Bogo-Medelin Medical Center in Barangay Luya, Medellin last June 18 and killed Ramirez.
Ramirez had been staying at the facility after the court granted his request to be placed under hospital arrest.
He had been arrested back in 2017 after police found him in possession of unlicensed firarms and drug paraphernalia inside his home.
Ramirez has been considered by police as having links in the narcotics trade.
