Gov Yap asks Duterte for Malasakit Center in Southern Leyte

Southern Leyte Governor Christopherson Yap on July 5 said he asked President Rodrigo Duterte to establish a Malasakit Center in the province.

The Southern Leyte politiko said the Malasakit Center will benefit poor indigents that need health services.

The Malasakit Center is a one-stop-shop that aims to help patients get assistance from the Department of Health (DOH), Philippine Health Insurance Corp. (Philhealth), Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO), and Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corp. (Pagcor).

Yap said Duterte vowed to discuss the project with DOH and Presidential Assistant for the Visayas Michael Dino.

He said a Malasakit Center in Southern Leyte means residents will not need to travel to Tacloban City to avail of health services.

“For people who have nothing, the center can really help them a lot if they seek for medical assistance. Before we can position our self as economically viable to any market, we have to also take care of our human resources,” Yap said.
