Gov Tan optimistic government will fund roads in communist-infested Samar towns in 2019
Samar Governor Sharee Ann Tan said she is hopeful that the national government will fund much-needed road projects in the province in 2019.
The Samar politiko said the road projects will traverse communities affected by communist rebels.
“We submitted the proposal to President Duterte and he instructed the DBM (Department of Budget and Management) to fund the projects, but it was not included in 2018. We submitted the proposal late last year due to lengthy validation process. We are very optimistic that this will be funded in 2019,” Tan said.
Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana said the national government has committed to build the road projects which will cost P12 billion.
“The Department of National Defense and the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) will have a convergence to ensure that road projects in the conflict-stricken areas of Samar will be completed within the term of President Rodrigo Duterte,” Lorenzana said.
