Gov reminds Iloilo mayors: You’re not on priority list for COVID vax
Iloilo Governor Arthur Defensor Jr. said he will not push to move up local chief executives (LCEs) in the priority list of the government’s Covid-19 vaccination program.
This, despite Concepcion, Iloilo Mayor Raul Banias admitted to getting vaccinated ahead of some medical frontliners.
“We are supposed to stick to the plan, especially when it comes from the COVAX Facility, because we have obligations,” said Defensor. (https://bit.ly/3runyOb)
“The mayors wanted to show their constituents that they were willing to get vaccinated. I think if not for our obligations to the COVAX Facility, that would be a sound vaccination strategy, but it is not doable right now because we have obligations,” he added.
Earlier, the World Health Organization and the Global Alliance for Vaccinations and Immunizations warned governments not to bump up other groups in the vaccination priority list using vaccines from the COVAX Facility.
Five LCEs were issued a show cause order by the Department of Interior and Local Government for having themselves vaccinated early.
