The Mambukal Mountain Resort and Wildlife Reserve may be transformed into a quarantine facility if another Covid-19 surge in the province takes place, Negros Occidental Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson said.

Lacson cited the uptick in Covid-19 infections from just two cases on January 1 to 40 before the end of the week.

Another wave of infections would necessitate more quarantine facilities, the governor said. (https://bit.ly/3r0CZiX)

The Mambukal Resort in the town of Murcia, owned and operated by the provincial government, closed for several months due to the pandemic and reopened on December 1, 2021.

The resort, however, closed again as a result of Typhoon Odette.

As of January 6, the Provincial Incident Management Team reported 208 active Covid-19 cases in the province.
