Gov-elect Garcia says proposed Cebu Capitol a waste of public money

Cebu Governor-elect Gwendolyn Garcia is calling foul over her predecessor’s move to continue the construction of the 20-storey Capitol resource center.

Garcia in The Freeman report said outgoing Governor Hilario Davide III wanted to shell out over P194 million, which provincial accountant Marieto Ypil did not reportedly heed.

She even showed a copy of the disbursement voucher for the release of the 15 percent mobilization fee for the construction of the edifice, amounting to P 194,849,570.

“I am shocked and I am offended and in the name of the Cebuanos who voted for me… I am insulted… that this present outgoing governor and his minions committed such a blatant act of attempting to waste people’s money,” the lady politiko added.

For his part, Davide said he was not intimidated by Garcia’s pronouncements.

“This is a matter already in court and, therefore, no longer the proper subject of a presscon, even more so because they have no restraining order. At any rate, since they continue to do this, we will just refer this to our lawyers to file the appropriate action before the court,” according to him.
