Getting even: Puentevella sacks Bacolod school chief
Bacolod City mayor Monico Puentevella announced he will replace the administrator of the Bacolod City College (BCC) over allegations that some politicians tried to use its students for political mileage during the filing of certificates of candidacy (COC).
Puentevella said he will soon name the replacement of Johanna Bayoneta, who will be reassigned to one of the departments at the city hall.
Bayoneta took a sick leave for a medical operation. She has, however, reported to work on November 2.
In an article in Panay News, Bayoneta said she has yet to receive an order reassigning her to the city hall.
Citing an unnamed source, the local newspaper reported that Puentevella’s appointee is Teresa Villanueva, a teacher from La Salle Tech, an extension of the University of St. La Salle that offers technical-vocational course.
Vice Mayor Greg Gasataya said the appointment of any person as head of the BCC or any of the school’s department should be approved by the school’s Board of Trustees first.
Puentevella has an ordered an investigation into the October 15 incident when BCC students were directed to wear red shirts and gather at the public plaza where their school clearances would be distributed.
Red is the campaign color of Puentevella’s rival in the mayoralty race, Bacolod Rep. Evelio Leonardia, who filed his candidacy on the same day at the Commission on Election’s (Comelec) office located at the plaza.
Puentevella’s Magbinuligay Kita para sa Kauswagan (MKK) party, on the other hand, is using yellow.
