Candidates running for different positions in Cebu have signed a peace covenant for fair and peaceful 2022 polls.

On Tuesday, candidates for governor, vice governor, and congressmen and board members from the first to seventh districts of Cebu trooped to the Cebu Police Provincial Office (CPPO) headquarters to support the Commission on Elections mandate for honest and orderly elections.

“This peace covenant signing may seem ceremonial. It may even appear hypocritical to some, but to the simple living Sugboanons it shows our commitment to peace and a manifestation of our burning desire to respect the mandate of the people,” said CPPO Director Police Col. Engelbert Soriano. (

Reelectionist governor Gwendolyn Garcia and former tourism secretary and Cebu gubernatorial candidate Ace Durano joined the covenant signing.

Garcia assured her constituents of safe and peaceful elections despite the political divisions.

For his part, Durano vowed not to be involved in any trouble.
