Former La Castellana mayor Enrico Elumba has died

Former La Castellana Mayor Enrico Roa Elumba of Negros Occidental passed away Monday evening.

He was 68.

Elumba, who served as mayor of La Castellana for nine years, succumbed to cardiac arrest, his nephew, Fernando Elumba, said. (

Before he became mayor from 1998 to 2007, Elumba served as a surgeon in Cebu for 20 years.

He ran for vice governor in the 2010 elections but lost.

Former Negros Occidental Governor Rafael Coscolluela described Elumba as a trusted friend, loyal ally, a true servant leader, and an outstanding mayor.

“You served your people well, Dok. You are gone too soon, but you leave behind a legacy we will always be proud of,” he said in his social media account.
