Fake birth certificate? Comelec disqualifies 26 WV SK, barangay poll winners
At least 26 winners in the recently concluded Sangguniang Kabataan elections in Western Visayas will not be allowed to assume their posts, after they were found to be overaged.
The Commission on Elections in Region 6 said these include eight who won as SK chairpersons and 18 who won as SK council members.
“There is an order from the Comelec En Banc to suspend their proclamation,” said Comelec-6 acting regional director Tomas Valera (https://thedailyguardian.net/banner-news/26-winning-sk-bets-1-kapitan-disqualified/).
Disqualified were two SK chairpersons each from Aklan, Capiz and Iloilo; and one each from Guimaras and Negros Occidental.
Disqualified SK councilors included four each from Capiz, Guimaras, and Iloilo; and three each from Aklan and Negros Occidental.
Valera said that while it was unclear if the 26 were already proclaimed, they cannot assume office as they are already disqualified.
For the disqualified SK chairperson, the candidate with the second highest number of votes will be proclaimed the winner.
As for the SK councilors, the candidate who occupied the eighth top spot will join the seven-member SK council.
On the other hand, the Department of Interior and Local Government will initiate the appointment of replacements for those who ran unopposed.
Candidates for the SK posts must be between 18 and 24 years old before election day; residents of the barangay for one year before election day; able to read and write; and have no relation to incumbent officials either by blood or marriage within the second civil degree.
They should also have not been convicted of moral turpitude.
