Ex-Iloilo mayor Partisala gets 20 years in jail over illegal quarrying
Former Maasin, Iloilo vice mayor Arnaldo Partisala has been sentenced to 20 years in prison for his involvement in illegal quarrying activities in Tigum River in 1996.
The Sandiganbayan 5th Division slapped the prison term after finding him guilty of graft and falsification of public documents.
Apart from this, Partisala is also fined with P5,000 and ordered perpetually disqualified from the exercise of his right for suffrage.
Under the charges, he and is co-accused made it appear the Sangguniang Bayan issued a resolution authorizing then mayor Rene Mondejar to exercise his emergency powers to enter into a memorandum of agreement in conducting quarrying activities on the pretense of rechanneling the river.
The quarrying activities was conducted by International Builders Corp.
Mondejar was already convicted by the court back in 2013 but at that time Partisala was still at-large.
Also convicted back in 2013 are Mondejar’s co-accused including some members of the SB and International Builders Corp. president Helen Tan.
