Espenido on 2 mayors killed under his watch: Wag kayo magisip ng ganoon kasama. Nagkataon lang
Chief Inspector Jovie Espenido insists that two mayors killed by a raiding police team under suspicious circumstances during his watch is just a coincidence.
In an interview with DZBB anchor Mike Enriquez, Espenido said: “Nagkataon lang, nagkataon na lumanaban, hindi intention na patayin lahat, nagkataon lang.”
Espenido was police chief of Albuera, Leyte when the town mayor, allegedy drug lord Rolando Espinosa, was killed by a Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) team in a predawn raid in a sub-provincial jail in Baybay Leyte in November.
Espenido was transferred to Ozamiz City in December last year. Seven months later, the city mayor, alleged drug lord Reynaldo Parojinog, was killed in his home along with his wife, brother and 13 others last Sunday.
“Huwag naman kayong magisp ng ganong kasama,” said Espenido.
While he took full responsibility for the police oprations against Parojinog, Espenido said that he had no part in the CIDG team led by Supt. Marvin Marcos which killed Espinosa. Espenido noted that he took Espinosa in protective custody for one month in Albuera to extract his testimony on the illegal drug trade in his province.
“Buhay siya for one month.May affidavit pa nga tayo. Noong inilipat siya, di ko na responsibility yan, may iba nang may hawak. One month after paglipat sa Baybay, namatay siya. Hindi ko na responsable si mayor,” said Espenido.
Enriquez said that his station had been swamped with text requests to transfer Espenido to their respective areas so that their “mayor could also be killed.”
