El Niño damage in Cebu reaches P45.8M
El Niño’s damage to 32 local government units (LGUs) in Cebu has reached around P45.8 million, the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (PDRRMO) confirmed.
At least 11 of 32 LGUs have declared a state of calamity.
These are the towns of Ginatilan, Minglanilla, Samboan, Sogod, Tudela, Dumanjug, Alcoy, and Santander, and the cities of Carcar City, Toledo, and Talisay.
PDRRMO officer Rhee Telen Jr. said the estimated cost of the dry spell’s damage to agriculture was at P14 million.
Livestock and marine agriculture lost to El Niño was at P836,200 and P30 million, respectively.
The PDRRMO, meanwhile, urged municipal agriculture offices to fast-track assessment of crop loss to dispatch immediate help to local farmers.
