Duterte signs law declaring June 18 Bacolod Charter Day
President Rodrigo Duterte signed into law Republic Act (RA) No 11146, declaring June 18 of each year as Bacolod City Charter Day and a special nonworking holiday in the city.
Under RA 11146, then President Manuel L. Quezon signed and approved Commonwealth Act No 326, creating the City of Bacolod on June 18.
The city’s inauguration, on one hand, will be commemorated every October 19.
Section 2 of the Act provides that, “Republic Act No. 7724, entitled: “An Act Declaring October Nineteen Of Every Year A Special Nonworking Public Holiday In The City Of Bacolod TO Be Known As ‘Bacolod City Charter Day’,” and any law, presidential decree or issuance, executive order, letter of instruction, administrative order, rule or regulation contrary to or inconsistent with the provisions of this Act are hereby repealed, modified or amended accordingly,” the new law read.
This measure was approved by the House of Representatives on February 14, 2018 and was amended by the Senate on September 10, 2018.
