Durano eyeing new tourism players to help boost local economy
Gubernatorial candidate Ace Durano hopes that new tourism players will help boost the tourist industry in Cebu province.
Durano, former secretary of the Department of Tourism (DOT), tried rock-climbing in Toledo, an area known for local rock climbers.
“We have a lot of adventure tourism sites for rock climbing or caves that we can develop. We need to go beyond what we usually offer tourists because some of them are looking for adventure,” the Partido Pilipino sa Pagbabago-Bakud bet said. (https://bit.ly/3iMZW5u)
He described his rock climbing experience as an exhilarating experience that he would recommend to anyone.
“This is the type of tourism activity that we should really develop here in Cebu,” Durano said, adding that he hopes to implement the programs he started in DOT if he wins in the election.
During his stint as tourism chief, the gubernatorial aspirant started various programs to help tourism startups and encourage new players.
His programs helped increase the number of tourist arrivals from 2.1 million in 2004 to 3.2 million in 2010, an increase of 49.31 percent.
