Dismissed Aklan mayor win re-election
Amid the dismissal order against him by the Office of the Ombudsman, former mayor Ciceron Cawaling won the mayoralty race in Malay town, Aklan.
Cawaling garnered 16,277 votes while former mayor John Yap and independent candidate Rodgiet Ranara got 12,260 votes and 1,200 votes, respectively.
Last April 24, Cawaling was served a dismissal order by the Department of the Interior and Local Government for negligence in protecting the Boracay island.
The Ombdusman found him guilty of grave misconduct, gross neglect of duty, conduct unbecoming of a public official, and conduct prejudicial to the best interest of the service.
Cawaling, for his part, said he would appeal the dismissal order before the Supreme Court.
