Did you know? Edgar Labella the lone survivor of sunken ship in 1998
It’s been 20 years since he was given a second life.
Vice Mayor Edgar Labella of Cebu City celebrates Sept. 8 as a personal milestone. Apart from it being the Virgin Mary’s birthday, it is also the day when he was given a new lease of life after surviving the sunken MV Princess of the Orient of Sulpicio Lines back in 1998.
His partymate Barangay Captain Nina Mabatid recounts that Labella was “the last survivor afloat for 36 hours in the middle of a typhoon.”
“In tragedy we find our life’s purpose and Im sure that VM Labella found his ultimate purpose and that is public service.. to climb higher .. a climb that can be tough and challenging, but the view is worth it and that is a beautiful Cebu City,” Mabatid added.
“Happy birthday vice! We love you!”
What an inspiring story!
