Dengue cases in Iloilo spike to 2,453
For the first six months of 2019, a total of 2,345 dengue cases, including 12 deaths, have been reported in the Iloilo province, said the Provincial Health Office (PHO).
PHO said the data indicated a 597 percent increase in dengue cases and deaths compared to the same period last year. Five towns and a component city in the province recorded three-digit spikes in dengue cases, according to its head Patricia Grace Trabado.
Passi City has the highest number of cases with 225, followed by Pototan (197), Concepcion (173), Ajuy (126), Santa Barbara (116), and Calinog (161).
“Concepcion has the highest number of deaths at three, followed by Pototan, Banate, and Bingawan with two deaths and New Lucena, Santa Barbara, and Pavia each with one death,” said Trabado.
Despite the number of dengue cases, the PHO official said there was no need yet to declare an outbreak. She urged the public to search for and destroy breeding sites of dengue mosquito carrier.
