Defensor to form provincial civil defense group

The Iloilo Provincial Government plans to create a “provincial civil defense group” that will serve as responders during emergencies and disasters.

Governor Arthur Defensor Jr. wants the provincial guards to make up the core of this group.

“We will revive, improve and step up our provincial guards by providing them training on disaster response,” said Defensor.

For the budget support and requirement, the governor said he will be conferring with the Provincial Budget Office, Provincial Accounting Office, General Services Office, Human Resource Management and Development Office, and the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO). (

He said he would also seek the help of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan.

PDRRMO chief Jerry Bionat said that provincial civil defense group personnel must know basic life support and first aid.

They must know, too, how to move and transport patients and how to swim, added Bionat.
