Defensor surprises volunteers with P4K cash gift
A thunderous applause greeted Iloilo Governor Arthur Defensor Sr. on Wednesday when he announced the release of P4,000 cash gift to each of the 14,000 volunteer workers in the province.
Speaking at the Barangay Service Point Officer’s Day held in Punta Villa, Iloilo City, Defensor said he increased the cash gift to P4,000 from P3,500 last year to make the volunteers happy this Christmas.
The volunteers are composed of Barangay Health Workers, Day Care Workers, Barangay Service Point Officers, and Barangay Nutrition Scholars.
“With their presence in all the 1,721 barangays of the province, we can be sure that all our services especially on health reach the community,” Defensor said.
Some P56 million was allotted this year for the cash gift of the volunteers, according to Provincial Administrator Raul Banias
“The support of BSPOs in our programs helped a lot. They proved that if their service is for our people, volunteering isn’t tiresome,” said Defensor.
Volunteers from the fifth district were the first to receive their cash gift with Barotac Viejo serving as the payment center for the towns of Barotac Viejo, San Rafael, Lemery, Ajuy and Concepcion while Sara served as payment center for the towns of Batad, Carles, Balasan, Estancia, San Dionisio, and Sara.
The rest of the volunteers will receive their cash gift from Thursday to Saturday.
“As I wind up my second term, remember that Art Defensor loves you because you have supported him in all his political fights. You gave me strength and inspiration. You proved to me that love can prevail over money,” the governor said.
Defensor is seeking reelection next year.
