Danao City bans plastic bags

The use of plastic bags will no longer be allowed in Danao City starting today, June 1.

Mayor Thomas Mark Durano issued Executive Order No. (EO) 26, which is supported by Ordinance No. 38-15, to implement the plastic ban.

Violators will face a P1,000 fine for the first offense, P2,000 for the second, and P5,000 for the third, as well as six months in prison and the cancellation of license to operate. (https://shorturl.ac/7aa9e)

The residents and visitors are encouraged to use eco-bags, woven bags, cloth bags, or paper bags to support the city’s “Bring Your Own Bag” campaign.

“The order was promulgated to protect the environment and maintain ecological balance within the city’s territorial jurisdiction, particularly in its creeks, rivers, and other waterways, where non-biodegradable plastic materials often end up, causing harm to the river and its surrounding barangays,” a portion of the EO read.

The policy does not cover stores that sell wet goods such as fish, meat and similar products.
