Dahil ba malapit na election? Cebu provincial government starts barangay outreach programs for 2018
The Cebu provincial government has kicked off its legal outreach program for 2018 to help ensure peace and order at the barangay level.
Officials from the Provincial Legal Office started the Barangay Legal Outreach Programs (BLOP) in Dumanjug town last Feb. 8.
Some 300 barangay officials from 18 barangays attended the BLOP seminar for barangay captains, barangay tanods and the lupong tagapamayapa.
During the seminar, sessions for barangay chiefs and tanods discussed issues related to rules and procedures on arrests and seizures.
Dumanjug Mayor Reniero Asentista lauded the provincial government for its proactive steps to strengthen public order.
On the other hand, PLO department head Atty. Orvi Ortega said BLOP will remove misguided notions concerning barangay functions.
It also aims to assure that personnel are always ready to serve the public, Ortega added.
The BLOP is a training-workshop for barangay officials and workers on the proper understanding and execution of their functions.
Also during the seminar, the lupong tagapamayapa were guided on the provisions of Republic Act 9262, or the Anti-Violence Against Women and Children Act.
They were also guided on its procedure of mediation and the importance of the Barangay Protection Order by the Philippine Alternative Dispute Resolution, Inc.
Meanwhile, discussions on forensic evidence preservation procedures were also tackled by PNP Scene of the Crime Operatives (SOCO) personnel.
The next round of BLOP will soon be conducted for the remaining barangays in Dumanjug town.
